Rapidly Migrating Secondary Bedforms Can Persist on the Lee of Slowly Migrating Primary River Dunes

چکیده
Trains of secondary bedforms, superimposed on primary dunes, have been observed in rivers worldwide. To date, it has remained unclear how these bedforms affect the sediment transport dynamics a fluvial system. In this study, field campaign was conducted to acquire data set with high spatial and temporal resolution, enabling track bedform migration. Results show that two distinct scales are actively migrating. parts study area, fully dissipate at lee slope underlying dune, suggesting contribute migration dune. other parts, however, persist trough The steepness seems control this. We calculated rates associated both migration, based dune tracking. is same order magnitude, even exceeds This implies play crucial role bedload sediment, cannot be ignored quantification

Migrating planets
A planet orbiting in a disk of planetesimals can experience an instability in which it migrates to smaller orbital radii. Resonant interactions between the planet and planetesimals remove angular momentum from the planetesimals, increasing their eccentricities. Subsequently, the planetesimals either collide with or are ejected by the planet, reducing the semimajor axis of the planet. If the sur...

متن کاملTechniques for Migrating Computations on the Grid∗
Grid computing is focusing more on resource sharing, cycle stealing, and other modes of collaboration among dynamic and geographically distributed organizations. As a complement to the traditional data migration in client/server and distributed computing systems, moving computations to proper locations for resource sharing becomes an effective alternative. The Grid’s characteristics require com...
متن کاملSlowly-migrating Transition Layers for the Discrete Allen-cahn and Cahn-hilliard Equations
It has recently been proposed that spatially discretized versions of the Allen-Cahn and Cahn-Hilliard equations for modeling phase transitions have certain theoretical and phenomenological advantages over their continuous counterparts. This paper deals with one-dimensional discretizations and examines the extent to which dynamical metastability, which manifests itself in the original partial di...
